Since I’ve been mostly reading YA books over the last few years, I’ve missed out on a lot of good newer Canadian literature. Canada Reads seems like a good place to start on my back reading.
Now – I didn’t do any of the reading during the period when there was a shortlist for this year. However, I have read one and a bit of those books in the past. I’ll read the other three shortlisted titles in the upcoming months.
Which have I read? The Birth House, by Ami McKay. One of my all-time favourites. Read it. You’ll love it. Essex County, by Jeff Lemire is a graphic novel composed of several shorter graphic works. I’ve read one of those, called The Country Nurse. I quite enjoyed it. I’m looking forward to the remainder of the book. As well as the other three shortlisted titles, including this year’s winner, The Best Laid Plans, by Terry Fallis.
